Cigar
Selection: the process
When you think you are ready to
join the cigar smoking population, there are some things you
should consider. First how will you choose the right cigar for
you. Try following these steps which can lead to a more
fulfillment as a cigar smoker.
It is very much important to try
and choose the right cigar or else you will just end up wasting
money. You have to consider the color, flavor, aroma and the
length when choosing a cigar in order for you to make sure that
you get the best from that cigar.
The milder, the better (Choose
mild cigars)
The beginner is advised to choose
a relatively small cigar, say a minuto or carolina, and then
move up to the bigger sizes of a mild brand. Do not shock your
lungs and throat, as you are starting; you need time to develop
a palate for the taste. And smaller milder cigars cost less so
you won't cry if you break it accidentally or drop it into a
puddle.

See the quality (Inspect
the cigar)
Squeeze the cigar gently. It
should give a bit but not be too soft. Don't roll it in your
fingers, as some suggest - this can damage the wrapper. Squeeze
gently up and down the body to look for lumps or soft spots. A
good cigar should have neither. Remember to be
gentle.
Inspect the wrapper for
discolorations, looseness, or cracks. The wrapper should be
smooth and tight, and not damaged on either end.
Inspect the tobacco at the exposed
end. Some variations of color are normal, as most cigars are
made from a blend of tobaccos. What you're looking for is
strange or abrupt color changes. This sometimes means an
inferior leaf was used, or the leaves weren't laid together
properly in the bunching process. Bad tastes and uneven burns
will often be the result.
Of course, in choosing a cigar
you want one which will satisfy your taste. Cigars can range
from very mild to very strong. Also, they can be spicy, or
flavored with such tastes as rum or vanilla. You may prefer a
milder cigar during the day and a stronger one in the evening,
or visa versa. Or you may find a strength that you wish to
smoke at all times.
Store well
When you do not have the right
container to store cigars in, it is better buy those that could
last for more than a couple of days, if they are kept in the
pacakge. Otherwise a humidor is requires to protect your cigar
investment. The purpose of a humidor is to keep your cigars at
their peak "smokability". The most crucial characteristic of a
fine humidor is that it can provide a constant environment of
about 68' to 70' F and 70-72% humidity.
These are the some good starting
tips or steps in choosing cigars. These assist you in selecting
and enjoying a cigar.
Cigar smoking can be a very
pleasurable experience, once you choose the right cigars. Relax
and enjoy.
